Speak Up For Women have commissioned a piece of research which was conducted in February 2019 by specialist research company Buzz Channel.

Initially commissioned to inform our campaign to halt the BDMRR Bill and sex self-identification, the research was not complete when Minister Tracey Martin made her shock announcement that she would be deferring the Bill. Nonetheless, this comprehensive data reflects the legitimacy of our position in opposition to sex self-identification and affirms Minister Martin's decision to defer. This research will inform how we approach future consultations with the government on this Bill and related matters.

The online survey was hosted on Buzz Channel's survey platform, and a sample of 1,002 New Zealanders aged 18 years and over completed the survey, giving a margin of error of +/- 3% at the 95% confidence level.  Quotas were imposed to ensure the sample was nationally representative by age, sex and region according to the 2013 Census data.
